650r Exhaust Install

Well we all can’t keep well enough along, so a new pipe is definitely in order. With the stock pipe the bike is really quiet so a new exhaust is nice to help being heard while driving on these NY and NJ roads. After researching and comparing different exhausts I came up with the Scorpion Exhaust. I felt that for the sound, appearance, and money, the Scorpion exhaust is hard to beat. Lissette and I thought that the clear titanium pipe would look the best on her bike so that’s what we went with.

I planned it out perfect. We mainly ride on the weekends when we have plenty of time to kick back and go cruising, so I ordered the pipe and installed it during the week without her knowing anything. When it came time for out weekend cruise and she started it, her reaction was priceless. She was so ecstatic. The new pipe is a decent amount louder, especially during high idle warm up.

So here are detailed pictures of the parts and installation. The reason I post this stuff is for other people looking for this type of information. When I research this stuff this is what I would like to see before I decided on a particular brand to purchase. Its nice to see the quality of the parts and what’s involve with the installation.

Here is just what came in the box and what to expect. The pipe look really nice. Almost too nice to hide under the bike, but it gives the bike a nice clean look.

Just some pics of the bike on the front wheel chock and my fabricated rear stand.

Removal of the stock muffler was pretty straight forward. I removed the right rear set and wire tied it to the sub frame for the seat to keep it out of my way so I could get at the upper mounting bolts . I was surprised how heavy the stock muffler was. The muffler looks like a cars muffler. Anyway, out with the old and in with the new…

I was thinking about mounting the pipe upside down because I am not crazy about the angle of which the exhaust shoots out of the pipe. I ended up keeping the exhaust pipe more straight up than on an angle. The reason for this was because if I were to ride on the right side behind her I would be getting hit in the face with exhaust. If I mounted the pipe upside down the exhaust probably would shoot straight out the back. Maybe I’ll play with it another day.
