Welding

After searching for a cart for my Miller Dynasty I came to the conclusion that if I wanted a cart the way I wanted it, I would have to build it myself. I wanted a rolling cart that would have just about everything I needed to tig weld without being huge. So little by little I started to collect material from my job, most of which was going to be trashed. Here is the progress…

Here is a cabinet I found that was heading to the dumps. I just framed out and welded angle iron around the bottom. I also found some caster rubber wheels with ball bearings for the front, and a solid axle with bigger tires for the rear. The cart rolls real smooth and quiet.

The cabinet was meant to be mounted under a table so thanks to www.weldingweb.com I was able to perfectly bend the sheet metal for the top and the back of the cabinet. I didn’t even have to screw any of the panels on, just tight fit. I also bent the 1/16 metal plate for the back that holds my Argon tank and filler rods. Everything is coming out great.

These drawers really roll nicely, but the only draw back to that is that the drawers want to open when the cart is being rolled around. So I ended up welding metal rods to the front of the cart and I glued magnets to the drawers. So when the drawers are closed they are being held closed by the magnets.

This is as far as I got so far. I still have to make something to hold a foot pedal, maybe a fire extinguisher, torch and cables. I am also thinking about mounting my Harbor Freight 3" mini grinder on the cart too. Since I rarely touch my tungsten to my work peice or filler, I really don’t have to grind my tungsten that much. If I do, I am debating on mounting an outlet box on the cart and make a new main extension cord to provide power to the welder and outlet. Not sure if I want to go through all that hassle.
